The Firecracker Who Wouldn’t Bang

During one Diwali, Grandma Leela handed her grandson Arjun a strange firecracker.

“This one’s special,” she said. “Be gentle.”

But when Arjun lit it, the cracker just… fizzled.

“No bang! No boom!” he complained.

That night, disappointed, he placed the silent cracker on his windowsill and went to sleep.

At midnight, a soft glow lit his room. The firecracker floated in the air and whispered, “I don’t like loud things. I grant wishes instead.”

Arjun blinked. “A wish-granting cracker?!”

“Only quiet ones. One per Diwali.”

So Arjun whispered, “I want to help someone who’s lonely.”

The next morning, he found a stray puppy curled up by the door, wearing a tiny ribbon with a tag: For Arjun – because your heart is bright.

He named her Diya.

Every year, Arjun skipped the noisy fireworks and lit one silent sparkler in honor of his little magical friend.

Sometimes the brightest lights come with no sound at all.
