Every Ugadi morning, Grandma Sharada would wake before sunrise, grind fresh neem leaves, slice raw mangoes, and prepare the famous Ugadi Pachadi—a mixture of six tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty, pungent, and spicy.
“This is life in one spoon,” she said. “Try it.”
Little Harsha made a face. “Why bitter neem? Yuck!”
Grandma just chuckled. “You’ll see.”
But that Ugadi, something strange happened. Harsha took a small spoonful—and suddenly, the world around him shimmered. He was no longer in the kitchen, but in a strange land where emotions were food.
He met a smiling mango who said, “Sweet moments make life joyful.”
A tearful neem leaf added, “But sadness helps you grow stronger.”
A fiery chili whispered, “Challenges give you courage.”
Harsha journeyed through flavors until he saw a mirror. In it, he saw himself, his family, his struggles—and all the reasons his heart was full.
When he blinked, he was back in the kitchen, Pachadi still in hand.
“Did you see it?” Grandma asked.
Harsha smiled. “I think I tasted life.”
