The Golden Peacock

Moral: Greed can lead to loss

A beautiful golden peacock lived in the forests of South India, and it had the most splendid feathers that glittered like the sun. It became proud of its beauty and started to boast about its feathers to the other animals.

One day, a wise crow warned the peacock, “Beware, for vanity and greed can bring misfortune.” But the peacock, ignoring the warning, went on showing off to everyone it met.

Soon, a hunter heard about the golden feathers and decided to trap the peacock. He caught the bird and took away its feathers, leaving the peacock bare and sad.

The peacock learned a painful lesson: greed and vanity would only bring misery. It was the inner beauty of kindness that would always shine the brightest.

Grandmother would say, “Vanity is like a cloud that covers the sun. True beauty is in the heart, not in appearance. Be kind, be humble, and you’ll always shine.”
