The Divine Dance of Goddess Sita at Bhadrachalam

At the magnificent Bhadrachalam Temple, where Lord Rama and Goddess Sita are worshiped in their divine forms, Grandmother Parvathi would tell the grandkids about the most beautiful wedding ritual that takes place there: the Sita Rama Kalyanam.

“Long ago, when Lord Rama was in exile with Sita, they came to the banks of the Godavari River in Bhadrachalam. This place became sacred, and the Bhadrachalam Temple was built in their honor,” she began.

“The story goes that on the day of their divine wedding, the entire village gathered to witness the union of Rama and Sita. They offered prayers, flowers, and food to the gods, hoping for their blessings of happiness and prosperity.”

Grandma continued, “Even today, the Sita Rama Kalyanam is a grand ritual that occurs every year. Devotees believe that the marriage of Rama and Sita symbolizes the sacred bond of dharma—the duty to do what is right.”

The ritual is unique, Grandma said. “The idol of Lord Rama is dressed in wedding clothes, and Sita is dressed in a beautiful saree. The priests perform a wedding ceremony, as they would for any marriage, but this is no ordinary ceremony. The gods themselves are invited to join the celebration. The temple is filled with songs, mantras, and devotional dances.””Devotees gather to participate in the processions, offering fruits and flowers as symbols of blessings and prosperity. It’s a celebration of the eternal love of Rama and Sita.”
